Hyperhidrosis Kitchener Waterloo

Effective Treatment for Excess Sweating

Excess Sweat (Hyperhidrosis) can be a confidence breaking, and self esteem destroying condition. The good news is you have options! Botox treatments for Hyperhidrosis work, are done in a medical office and are sometimes covered partially by private insurance (patient responsible for checking with their insurance, injection fee non-reimbursable).

During treatment, a small needle injects small amounts of Botox into the targeted skin. Botox works to reduce sweat production in the Scalp, Armpits and Palms.

COST of

Botox Hyperhidrosis

Cost depends on individual patient factors, area of treatment, and their insurance benefits

Consult Fee: OHIP covered ($100 if no OHIP)

Treatment Fee: Dependent on Severity, $250 injection fee PLUS Variable cost for BOTOX Medication (100-200 units typically needed)

We, unfortunately, we cannot provide specifics or quotes without seeing you for a consultation where your specific needs can be assessed and determined.

How does Botox for Hyperhidrosis Work?

Botox is an approved treatment for primary hyperhidrosis by both Health Canada and the FDA. By injecting small amounts of botox into the underarms, palms, soles, or scalp and forehead we can help control excess sweat production. Research shows this is a safe and effective way of controlling hyperhidrosis. Studies show an 82-87% decrease in sweating, with results appearing in 2-4 days after injections, and lasting up to 4-6 months.

Botox blocks the signals produced by sweat glands to reduce excess production.

Treatments are performed by Dr. Rayhaan Dawood after an initial consultation. The actual procedure is very safe and straightforward and will take less than an 15 minutes. A very fine needle is used to inject small amounts of Botox into the treatment area. After treatment, you should notice a reduction in the amount of sweat produced within a month, and results may last up to 6 months. Treatment is not a cure but is a way to manage this disabling condition. After your treatment has worn off a repeat treatment will be needed.

Treatment Areas with Botox

The underarms are the most commonly injected area for hyperhidrosis treatments. But Botox can essentially be used anywhere. Scalp, forehead, palms, soles of feet, underarms and more!

If you suffer from excess sweating, have tried alternatives already, and are interested in Botox treatments for hyperhidrosis, book an appointment today!

How Long Does Botox Hyperhidrosis Last?

Treatment should last for four to six months and fades slowly. Some patients metabolize Botox faster, and some slower. Repeat treatments are required for sweat production to remain suppressed. Botox treatments are not a cure, but are a way to manage this debilitating condition.

Botox for Hyperhidrosis – Health Canada and FDA Approved

Botox is an approved therapy for the primary treatment of hyperhidrosis, commonly known as excessive sweating. Hyperhidrosis is a disorder that affects many Canadians. At the Kitchener Waterloo Cosmetic Clinic we have treated many patients in the Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and Guelph region for this debilitating condition. The most common areas are the underarms/armpits, hands and feet, but you can suffer from excess sweating on any part of the body including the scalp and face.

The cause of excess sweating is not completely known. But the medical community believes it may be caused by an abnormally functioning nervous system. And it can also be affected by exercise, spicy foods, and stressful situations.

Many patients come to us after suffering for years with hyperhidrosis, and have already exhausted traditional over the counter or prescription based antiperspirants.

Any Downtime with Botox?

There is minimal downtime day of and after treatment with minor swelling, and some mild discomfort. Most patients notice results in 5-7 days, with full effect by 2-4 weeks.

How many units of Botox do I need? What is the cost of the procedure?

It is impossible to say without a consultation with one of our staff. We encourage anyone interested and ready for treatment to book an appointment with our office. Initial consult to discuss your medical condition is OHIP covered with a valid health card ($100 without valid card). Actual injections are not covered and a $250 injection fee applies PLUS the cost of the Botox Medication. Please call our office to inquire further as to the process. Often the cost of the Botox itself will be covered in part by third party medical insurance, however, this will not cover the injection fee our office charges.

Who is Botox for?

Anyone who currently suffers from debilitating excessive sweating may be a candidate. Botox is great for both men and women who suffer from excessive sweating.

At Kitchener Waterloo Cosmetic Clinic, all injectable based treatments are done personally by Dr. Rayhaan Dawood MD. CCFP. We are one of the best cosmetic clinic’s and medical spa’s in the Kitchener Waterloo Region, and take your care seriously.

Botox Hyperhidrosis

If you suffer from excessive sweating in the underarms, hands, feet, or any other area. Then think about treatment today. You may have a very rare medical condition known as hyperhidrosis, which can start during adolescence or adulthood. Sweating is a very incredibly important bodily function that aids in thermoregulation, or your body’s natural ability to regulate its own temperature. Hyperhidrosis inhibits your body’s ability to limit its sweating, resulting in producing more sweat than is necessary. This will lead to social anxiety and nervousness, skin irritation, breakouts, and even difficulty performing manual tasks, especially for those who sweat from their hands. BOTOX® hyperhidrosis treatment can help.

There are multiple different options for hyperhidrosis treatment, including surgeries to remove the sweat glands, special antiperspirants, and medications. However, BOTOX has proven itself as not only one of the safest and most effective hyperhidrosis treatments, but also as one that is both quick and relatively non-invasive and with only slight discomfort in typical cases. And because results can typically last between 7 and 12 months, you can live worry-free with fewer treatments than many other options. We are able to perform injection to the hands, feet, scalp, forehead, and underarms.

Is this treatment covered by OHIP or my drug plan?

Your initial assessment of excess sweating or hyperhidrosis is covered by OHIP ($100 if you do not have valid OHIP). The BOTOX® medication is typically covered by the majority of private drug plans, however it is up to the patient to speak to their own insurance provider and our office does not hold any responsibility if they do not cover the cost. There will also be an additional injection fee our office charges to do the injections, your insurance will not reimburse this cost to you. Because of its impressive effectiveness, many patients even  without drug plans still choose to have treatments with Botox. Our office can answer any questions you have about cost, safety, and effectiveness during your initial consultation.

Botox has also been used on and off label for many other conditions. Migraine and tension headaches, Temperomandibular Joing (TMJ) pain, and Bruxism (teeth grinding) are all other indications we are able to treat with Botox.

Treatment Process:

After your initial consultation you will be schedule for a treatment appointment OR treatment will be done same day if time permits. The treatment area is identified and, if necessary, anesthetized using topical anesthetic cream/ointment, the BOTOX Medication is prepared and then injected just beneath the skin using a very fine needle. Once under the skin, the BOTOX works by blocking the signals and chemicals that stimulate your body to produce sweat at the targeted area. The sweat glands down-regulate and produce LESS sweat. The goal is to reduce sweat to a level that a normal person creates.

For the next few months, you will have reduced sweat production. Restore confidence and self-esteem, reduce anxiety, embarrassment, and stop excess sweating from negatively affecting your lifestyle.
