What are Dermal Fillers For?
Dermal Fillers are a way to create lift, volumize, contour and restore youth, and rejuvenate and face and body. In the past, plastic surgery was the only option for most patients. Dermal Fillers allow for a non-surgical approach, and when combined with Botox, Peels, Facials, Skincare, and other treatments can create dramatically improved, and natural-looking beauty
Why Are Dermal Fillers Amazing?
As we age, our skin starts to show wear in the form of fine lines, wrinkles, creases, folds, sagging, and volume loss. The changes are natural and occur due to facial expressions, environmental exposures, and a general loss of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. Though natural, the changes of age are not necessarily “loved” by many. At Kitchener Waterloo Cosmetic Clinic we can help.
Fillers are a volume restoration tool that are injected right under the skin to create a tighter, smoother, more contoured appearance. Dermal Fillers are a nonsurgical, minimally invasive, absorbable product that is injected to correct volume loss, creases, wrinkles, folds, and to enhance and create contour. Fillers can add volume and definition by altering contours, to restore a youthful appearance.
Fillers are very often injected into the lips, cheeks, under eyes, nasolabial folds, chin and jawline, and other areas of the face. Fillers are a versatile treatment that can help with fine lines, wrinkles, and so much more.

Filler is a natural, Hyaluronic Acid injection. It can plump lips, soften skin folds, volumize the face and restore Youth
Dermal Filler is traditionally used for Lip Augmentation, Liquid Face Lift, Jaw Sculpting, Under Eye Filling, Chin Projection, Cheek Lifting, Nasolabial fold and Marionette Line filling, Deep Creases, and more. Fillers will volumize the face, fill creases, and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule already present in the skin. But as we age, hyaluronic acid, as well as collagen and elastin, begins to deteriorate. This results in facial aging and volume loss.
Using injectable filler, the skin and facial tissue absorbs water molecules and binds collagen and elastin to restore lost volume, leading to a more youthful appearance.
Patient’s wanting to fill wrinkles and folds without a surgical approach are great candidates. At Kitchener Waterloo Cosmetic Clinic, Dr. Rayhaan Dawood is able to use filler products like Juvederm, and Belotero to treat “Smile Lines”, “Marionette Lines”, create plump lips with lip filler, restore facial contour with cheek filler, and sharpen the jawline and chin.
Additional uses of filler are for skin retexturing and creating a radiant glow with a special surface filler called Juvederm Volite. Filler products are often combined with other treatments like Botox, Xeomin, Chemical Peels, Medical Grade Facials, Microneedling, to create the ultimate youthful glow.
How long does Filler Last?
Treatment can last from 6-18 months depending on the type of filler used and the location placed.
Filler Injection Downtime?
There can be some mild swelling and bruising for the first-week post filler placement. Most patients tolerate the actual procedure quite well with minimal discomfort after topical anesthetic lotion. The actual procedure takes less than 45 minutes, and you can resume your regular daily activities right after.
Do you use Juvederm Dermal Filler?
We use every type of filler. But excellent results can be achieved with any filler product. Dr. Rayhaan Dawood’s belief is it isn’t the type of filler that matters, but the expertise of the actual injector. This is why it is so critical to receive treatment by an expert Cosmetic Physician.
Who is Dermal Filler for?
Dermal Filler is great for both men and women. Want that perfect Lip Plump? Cheek Volumization? Sculpted Jaw Line? Dermal Filler is what you need. And at Kitchener Waterloo Cosmetic Clinic all injectable based treatments are done personally by Dr. Rayhaan Dawood MD. CCFP. We are a premier cosmetic clinic and medical spa that takes your care seriously. We believe that facial treatments like Dermal Filler and Botox must be done by an expert physician.
COST of Dermal Filler?
Dermal filler cost is based on the type of product used, number of syringes needed, and particular patient goals.
We are a results-focused cosmetic clinic and medical spa. It is impossible to quote you a price before seeing you for consultation, and we always recommend patients budget for 1-2 syringes more than what you start with. 1 syringe of dermal filler is 1mL, a very small quantity.
Dermal fillers are a great nonsurgical alternative to plastic surgery, but be realistic in your goals and finances. You can not achieve a full facial transformation and facial re-profiling with 1 syringe of filler, 8-10 syringes is a more realistic amount for facial rejuvenation.
Average Cost Per Syringe: $900 Regular, Promotions Often
Best Candidates for Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are great for patients who want to enhance facial features such as the lips, cheeks, chin, jaw, under eyes, nasolabial folds, marionette lines and more. Fillers can also be used to reduce the general signs of aging on the face caused by fat loss, collagen and elastin depletion, and sagging skin. They are an ideal choice for those who prefer not to undergo plastic surgery.
How are Dermal Filler Injections Performed?
The first step is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Rayhaan Dawood MD CCFP. Dr. Dawood is an expert Cosmetic Physican with experience in Advanced and Expert level Dermal Filler treatments. He has trained along with and under some of the industry’s top physicians and injectable experts from across the world. At your consultation Dr. Dawood will assess your overall health and medical history, define your goals, and formulate a treatment plan.
At the time of treatment a topical numbing cream will be applied to minimize discomfort. Filler will then be injected using a very fine needle. Overall time in office is 30-60 minutes, with actual injections taking 15-30minutes.
As soon as your treatment is complete the injected hyaluronic acid will begin to integrate and absorb into your tissue and begin to bind water molecules within the soft tissue and skin. Most patients may have a bit of bruising and bleeding, as well as some redness to the area. This will settle in 1-3 days, and swelling will subside totally within 2 weeks.
Most patients return to their regular daily routine immediately post-treatment, and a follow up check-up appointment will be scheduled for 2 weeks after your treatment date.
Most Common Dermal Filler Injection
Areas
As our bodies age, we start to lose facial fat, collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. Fat loss sounds great, but in the facial area, it leads to saggy tissue and a more skeletal appearance. Facial fat gives us youth and helps smooth contours of the face.
One of the most notable areas of this loss is around the eyes, then the middle-upper cheek just below the eyes. The cheekbones are also the next place to lose its structure with age. We also start to lose facial fat and contour in the chin, jawline, and nasolabial folds, and midface.
Using Dermal Filler injections the lost facial structure can be repaired and rejuvenated, creating a more youthful appearance. Schedule a consultation today to learn about dermal fillers, botox, and other commonly used anti-aging treatments.
Forehead Wrinkles:
These dynamic and static lines can be treated primarily with Botox, Microneedling, and Dermal Filler via Aquagold Microchanneling/Microneedling Facial. These treatments can help to relax active muscle movement, and treat both dynamic and static lines. This leads to a smoother and more youthful appearance.
Under Eyes / Tear Trough Filler:
Our under eyes begin to look sunken and dark with age, giving us a tired and older look. Fillers can be great to help camouflage these issues and blend the under eye region into the rest of the face.
If you have hollowing under your eyes, then you may need tear trough and under eye filler. This treatment is not for everyone though, as you need to be the perfect candidate. By adding filler under the eyes we can treat this loss of volume and restore a more youthful look. In some select patient’s this may even help with darkening and hyperpigmentation under the eyes.
Jawline and Chin Filler:
As we age our Midface, Cheeks, Jawline, and Chin begin to lose structure, contour, and shape. In youth, facial fat is evenly spread giving the face a youthful look. But with age these tissues diminish, leading to a sunken, less supple, gaunt, skeletal appearance.
Dermal filler can help with lax dropping jawline tissue, add volume to cheeks and chins, and help treat jowls and sunken areas.
The Jawline and Chin is the latest request in nonsurgical cosmetics, and here at the Kitchener Waterloo Cosmetic Clinic we are at the cutting edge of medical aesthetics. Contouring these areas creates a sharper profile, a slimmer facial appearance, and more definition. Patients with a strong jaw muscle may also benefit from combination treatment with Botox to slim the jaw muscles.
Cheek Filler:
As we age, we begin to lose structure to and in our cheeks. Using cheek filler stops sagging, wrinkling, and hallowing of the face. Over time we begin to lose and breakdown our collagen, elastin, and facial fat pads, this ages the face, and becomes noticeable in the cheeks and midface. Our cheeks are one of the biggest parts of our face and are one of the first things people notice when they look at us. Injecting dermal filler can restore and reverse the aging process of the face, giving you a fuller, more chiseled and youthful profile. The Hyaluronic Acid integrates into the facial collagen matrix to create a more plump, and healthier-looking cheek structure. This has the effect of “slimming” the rest of the face and creating a more youthful look.
Scars Including Acne Scarring:
Severe acne scarring can also be treated if you are the right candidate. Small depressions in the skin can be filled with very small drops of dermal filler to smooth out the texture caused by scarring.
Nasolabial Folds:
As we smile, we start to form creases from the mouth that extend up to the nose. These are known as the nasolabial folds, and in some these deep creases can be prominent.
Filler can plump up the fold, reducing its appearance and softening the lines.
Lip Filler Injections:
One of the most commonly done injections are for lips. Lip filler injections can plump up thin and flat lips.
Lip injections can restore volume, fill up vertical lines above the lips, and create beautiful lip contour and shape.
Doing a lip fill may look easy, but it requires finesse and expertise. To create a beautifully shaped lip Dr. Rayhaan Dawood uses several techniques, including needle, cannula, micro-droplet, and more.
As we age the collagen in the lip begins to break down. This creates volume loss and wrinkling in the lip tissue. The Hyaluronic Acid in dermal filler will integrate into your existing lip tissue and create a fuller, plumper, more youthful lip.
Juvederm Volite, Aquagold Microchanneling and Anti-Aging Filler (Skinboosters):
Juvederm Volite is a special purpose dermal filler. While still a hyaluronic acid filler, this product is placed very superficially into the skin of the face to create a radiant, youthful glow. The goal is not to plump the skin, but to condition and refine it. This will help treat very fine smooth lines and rough texture to the surface skin. By boosting the production of collagen, the skin will become smoother and softer. And with more moisture comes more skin radiance. Often we will combine this with our Aquagold Microchanneling/Microneedling Facial treatment to deliver Botox and Filler via 24 karat gold needle tips directly into the skin, for the ultimate glow.
What if I Don’t Like the Results?
Dermal filler treatments can always be reversed, however most patients absolutely love their results. Some patients come to us from other clinics where they have had poor results. It could be too much filler was added, or the results are too lumpy. Or they just don’t like the overall look.
If treatment was done with hyaluronic acid dermal filler then hyaluronidase can be used to reverse it by dissolving the filler. Hyaluronidase is a naturally occurring enzyme that specifically targets dermal filler hyaluronic acid, and not the naturally occurring hyaluronic acid of your body.
Ideally you should not dissolve filler until it has been at lease 2 weeks post injection, unless it is an emergency dissolving that is needed. We do not perform emergency dissolving for treatments done at other clinics. For emergency dissolving contact the clinic you had treatment had for next steps.
If non-emergency dissolving for treatment done elsewhere is something you think you may need, please book an initial consultation with Dr. Dawood, hyaluronidase treatments start at $250+ and several sessions are often required.
If for some reason you are unhappy with a treatment we performed for you, we can happily dissolve the filler with hyaluronidase.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar molecule that is found in the connective tissues of the face, body, skin, joints, and tendons. Hyaluronic acid absorbs and binds water molecules that helps contribute to facial volume and contour, as well as skin health.
Dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid can be used to help achieve a youthful appearance by replacing the hyaluronic acid that has naturally been lost with aging. Because hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in our bodies, it is safe to inject as long as it is done so in the capable hands of an expert Cosmetic Physician. It is rare to have an allergy to it, although most patients will have some slight bruising, redness, and swelling post-treatment, which will fade in a few days.
Juvederm, Belotero, or other injectable filler contains Hyaluronic Acid as its main ingredient. Your body naturally produces Hyaluronic Acid, but by injecting more we can rejuvenate problem areas of the face and body! After injecting, your body will combine water with the Hyaluronic Acid to create areas of natural volume, replacing lost tissue and creatine new shape and contour where it is needed. The plumping effect after filler injection is what fills those wrinkles, creases, and hollows. It also lets us modify the contours of the face and shape and define areas like the lips, cheeks, chin, and jaw.
Hyaluronic Acid also boosts glow, radiance, and moisture levels of the skin. More hydration means your skin will be more youthful, vibrant, and healthy. And repetitive treatments with Dermal Filler bestow an anti-aging effect on the skin and body.
BOTOX® vs. Dermal Fillers
Botox and Dermal Fillers are commonly used together to address different aspects of aging and to realize patient goals. Dermal fillers are used for lost facial volume, and to enhance facial features and restore contour lost due to aging or weight loss.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a muscle relaxant injection that will smooth dynamic lines caused by muscle movement. Botox works by relaxing the muscles activity, allowing it to rest, and not cause deep wrinkles into the face and skin.
Both Botox and Fillers can be used in the same treatment/session depending on specific concerns. Dr. Dawood will be able to review your concerns and formulate an individualized treatment plan.
Filler Brands Available At KW Cosmetic Clinic
There are many dermal filler brands available on the market today. They are more or less the same substance, with slight variations in formulation. At the end of the day, it isn’t the type of filler used, or the brand that matters, but the absolute expertise and ability of the injector. Think of filler as the paint, and the injector as the artist.
Dr. Dawood has experience with all of the leading filler brands on the market. Currently, at KW Cosmetic we primarily use the Juvederm Line from Allergan and the Belotero Line from Merz.
Dermal Filler FAQ
What to Expect At Your Dermal Filler Treatment
The most appropriate dermal filler will e selected, and then injected using a fine needle or cannula. Dermal Filler will be injected to either enhance volume, fill lines, or contour the face. The procedure starts with cleansing the skin, and then application of topical numbing cream. Actual injections are quick, usually taking 10-15minutes to complete.
How Long Does it Take to See Results with Dermal Filler?
You will notice immediate results, with some initial swelling. Most swelling will settle in 2-3 days, and the actual filler will settle slowly up to 2 weeks. After 2 weeks you will really notice the “final results”. A follow-up appointment can be scheduled to re-inject, adjust, or correct if needed. Results will typically last up to six months – 1 year, depending on individual patient factors, and area of treatment and type of filler used. We find most patients are eager to return though at around 6 months for re-treatment, as they love the look of their filler treatment.
How Long Will Dermal Filler Last?
Dermal fillers fade slowly. Most patients will notice filler lasting from 6-12 months. But it is variable depending on individual patient factors. Most patients do return for re-treatment of the same area at around 6 months as they love their new look. Without treatment the area will slowly return to its original state over time.
All Dermal Filler is temporary. Touch ups and maintenance are recommended, with repeat injections. Dr. Dawood and staff will determine an appropriate treatment regimen and overall treatment plan.
What is Dermal Filler Recovery Like?
After Dermal Filler injections, some patients may notice mild redness, swelling, bruising, itchiness. Most symptoms resolve in 2-3 days, with minimal discomfort. Light concealer can usually take care of most issues. And most patients return to work immediately after treatment, with little restrictions.
How Much Does Dermal Filler Cost?
There are too many variables to give you a quote online. We require all patients to attend a consultation for full facial consultation with the doctor. Cost is going to be dependent on age, gender, goals, needs, and many other factors that are individualized and unique to each patient.
At your consultation at Kitchener Waterloo Cosmetic Clinic, Dr. Dawood and staff can develop an individualized treatment plan and provide you with an accurate estimate.
Are Dermal Filler Injections Painful?
Most patients only experience minimal discomfort. The smallest needles and cannulas that can be used for treatment are utilized. Topical numbing cream is used for pain management during procedure.
Are Dermal Fillers Reversible?
Yes. We are able to reverse dermal filler complimentary for our own patients who have received injections by us, and for a fee for patients of our injectors. We do not do emergency filler reversal for other clinics/injectors. For emergency reversal done by other clinics please contact the clinic that did your injection.
What Age Should Get Dermal Filler?
The age you start depends on many factors. As long as you are over 18 we can provide injections. If you are considering dermal filler because you have an issue you would like to address then we encourage you to book a consultation. Factors that can determine filler use are age, but also gender, environmental factors, skin aging, sagginess, loss of tone/texture, fine lines/wrinkles, volume and contour loss
I want to look natural, but still, get Dermal Filler?
When injected by an expert, you will always look natural. The goal is not to look overdone, but to look young, refreshed, rejuvenated, and natural.
The goal is not to look “over done”. But to look natural. Will people notice? We hope they will! We want others to notice you have a youthful appearance, but without telling that you had something “major” done. Subtle, natural enhancement is the goal at KW Cosmetic Clinic.
Are Dermal Fillers Safe?
Dermal filler treatments are a common procedure done all across the world. They are FDA and Health Canada approved. There are always risks with any medical procedure, but when done in the hands of an expert these risks are minimized. Hyaluronic acid is also a naturally occurring substance in our bodies and forms the core of most dermal filler products.
Possible Complications
Dermal fillers are very similar in composition to the Hyaluronic Acid that naturally already exists in our body. There is a very low risk of an allergic reaction or other reactions. Also, in the hands of an expert injector your risks of major complication are reduced. With any procedure, there is always a risk though, and all possible risks and contraindications will be reviewed at your consultation appointment, and to determine if you are an appropriate candidate for dermal fillers.
Overall, very serious complications are very rare.
When should I get dermal filler treatments?
We always recommend avoiding injections just before travel or a major event. This is due to the risk of swelling, bruising, or the chance that we need to bring you back for a re-assessment. These are medical procedures, not a regular day at the spa! Plan accordingly and you won’t be left disappointed.
Are fillers permanent?
No. The use of permanent fillers if heavily discouraged by most medical bodies and medical doctors. Permanent fillers have significant risks associated with them, like lumpiness, infection, migration, and worse. All fillers used at KW Cosmetic Clinic are temporary in nature. They are smoother, safer, and create more natural results.
Will I Bruise with Filler?
It is quite likely you will have a few tiny bruises, some redness, and swelling post-procedure. These are short-lived and subside in a few days, and are usually so minor no one will notice. During your consultation, our staff will answer any and all questions you have and go over aftercare instructions, as well as any potential risks or contraindications.
