Moles (Benign Nevi)
Moles come in various types. They differ in shape, size, colour, texture, location, and more. Moles can start from a very young age, or can appear later in life. Many moles and sunspots are harmless, but some can be pre-cancerous, and others cancerous.
At Kitchener Waterloo Cosmetic Clinic our focus is on cosmetic removal of skin lesions. We do not actively treat or remove cancerous type lesions. At a consultation with Dr. Dawood, we will review your skin and identify cosmetic lesions that can be removed at our facility. As Dr. Dawood is a trained medical doctor if there are any concerning pre-cancerous or cancerous in appearance lesions we will advise you to follow up with your regular family doctor.
Beauty spots and moles can either enhance or detract from an individual’s overall appearance, and removal of those spots is often a personal choice and preference. Some moles may not be flattering to an individual, and these can be removed with an outpatient in-office procedure.
When it comes to beauty marks, moles can enhance one’s individual beauty, however, sometimes a mole may not be so flattering, or may become easily irritated due to friction with clothing. In these cases, patients can opt to have their moles removed.
The ideal type or course of treatment will depend on the type of mole and will be at the discretion of Dr. Dawood when he sees you in the office to remove the lesion. Types of treatments are Electrocautery, Surgical Shave Excision, Freezing, and more.
Skin Lesions
Skin Lesion is a broad category that involves a variety of skin-based conditions/concerns. A Skin Lesion is really any type of irregularity in the skin that results in growth. Moles are a type of Lesion, but other lesions can be Sun Spots, Seborrheic Keratosis, Skin Tags, and more. Lesions can occur due to aging to the skin, environmental exposures, pollutants, sun/UV radiation and more.
