Chemical peels use various types of acids that are applied to the skin. The skin will then peel off and reveal a healthier, rejuvenated skin is revealed beneath. Here at Kitchener Waterloo Cosmetic Clinic, we offer two types of Peels, a Vivier Peel & a Jessner Peel.

Vivier Peel is perfect for your face, neck, and chest. It’s a gentle but effective exfoliation that brightens and tightens your skin leaving you feeling rejuvenated and glowing. This treatment will help minimize redness, fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and increases elasticity leaving you with smoother, firmer skin. The Vivier peel is recommended for all skin types; even those with sensitive skin or rosacea.

The Jessner Peel is another treatment you can get for your face, chest, back, and arms. It’s a unique procedure that exfoliates damaged skin. It also helps reduce fine lines, wrinkles, acne, dark spots, sun damage, and melasma.

The Jessner will create a superficial peeling and has salicylic acid in it. Salicylic acid helps deeply penetrate the skin and remove any congested sebum and dead skin cells. The potency on the Jessner is more concentrated than in the Vivier, so if you are sensitive we do recommend beginning with the Vivier first.

While one peel may show you results, to really show an improvement in your skin we recommend a peel every 4-6 weeks, with maintenance peels every 3-6 months.

Are Peels Painful?

There may be a stinging, or burning sensation during the treatment but nothing to cause complete discomfort. Redness may appear, but will disappear after a few days.

How long will I need to recover from the peel?

There is no actual downtime for the chemical peels, but you will notice that if you do start to peel it will occur about 3 days after the treatment. This should last between 5-7 days. That being said, while some people do peel and scale a lot, others have very minimal to no peeling occur. Within the first 24 hours, you won’t want to participate in any vigorous activities, swimming and hot showers.

You would also want to avoid any harsh cleaners, washcloths, and loofas for 48 hours following your procedure and stay away from any products containing Salicylic Acid, AHAs, Retinol, Retinoids, or Benzoyl Peroxide for the next 7-10 days.

For all peels, direct exposure to the sun or tanning should be avoided during the recovery period and an effective sunscreen should be applied. Any picking or removing of the peeling skin should also be avoided to prevent any scarring.
