If I need Botox does that mean I need Fillers? What’s the difference and in what areas can I get them? Essentially, Fillers allows you to sculpt and contour your face and works along with Botox.
But How does it Sculpt your face?
Fillers can be used as an anti-aging treatment through replacing the lost volume. They can also help enhance and alter the shape of your face and facial fillers. This may confuse some people though because it sounds similar to Botox. Both Botox and fillers can reduce lines, but Botox does so by relaxing the muscles and fillers does this by plumping up the area.
Fillers can get certain results that Botox can’t and can also be used in areas not indicated for Botox. What are these areas? They can include, but are not limited to, the Tear Trough (where your skin begins to hollow underneath your eyes creating “dark circles”), your jawline, nose (non-surgical rhinoplasty), and your smile lines (nasolabial folds).
What can I expect in the appointment?
Unlike Botox which takes about 2 weeks for effect to show, Facial Fillers are immediate. The results are subtle and surgery isn’t needed. The treatment can vary depending on how much filler you need. If it is your first time, there is typically a consult so set aside about 60 minutes so the physician can recommend what you need and can answer any questions you have.
After the carefully-placed fillers are injected for your treatment, you can go about your normal day. There may be slight bruising, but at Kitchener Waterloo Cosmetic Clinic, we use techniques that help minimize bruising and apply creams to aid in this as well.
Are there different types of fillers I can get?
The area in which you need fillers can determine which type of Filler to get. Certain fillers are created for specific areas. But all of the fillers are created with Hyaluronic Acid.
What Is Hyaluronic Acid and Why am I hearing so much about it?
Hyaluronic Acid occurs naturally in the skin, so any chances of reacting to it are minimal because it is not a foreign substance to your body. As we age, the production of Hyaluronic Acid starts to slow down. By injecting fillers, this restructures the hallowing of skin in certain areas, such as the Tear Trough, where we see dark circles, and our lips, which begin to lose it’s volume.
Hyaluronic Acid also stimulates collagen production, which too slows down as we age. But while the effect of dermal fillers isn’t permanent, it does help your body rejuvenate and absorb the Hyaluronic Acid.
How long do Fillers Last?
Depending on the type of fillers you get, which again depends on the area, fillers can last several months up to a year or more.
How Do I know If I need Fillers?
If you want to make subtle changes to your face without surgery, or noticing hollowing and loss of density in some places of your face, your first step is to consult a professional who has knowledge in the industry.
Remember, this is your face and you want to make the right choice for yourself. Botox and fillers can have detrimental results if you’re not going to someone who is educated in the field. Dr. Dawood’s an expert in his field and is always staying up to date with the latest advancements by continuing his education.
