Fine Line and Wrinkle Treatment

As we age our body begins to accumulate the signs of time. Fine Lines and Wrinkles are the most common sign, and can be distressing to many woman. Age, Sun and Environmental Exposure can all play a role in the development of these skin changes. The good news; there are options.

Fine Line and Wrinkle Treatment often involves multiple different treatment modalities each targeted to treat different aspects of aging. Each fills a unique role in the treatment of fine lines, wrinkles, and general skin aging.

Botox:

Botox, Xeomin, and other neuromodulators help to treat dynamic lines caused by the activity of muscle. They fill an important role in the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles. These injectable treatments smoothe forehead creases, frown lines, and crow’s feet, they can also slim the jaw through masseter injections, reduce chin dimpling, and help treat downturned mouth (DAO injections), and gummy smile. While Botox treatments are not immediate, the effects kick in after about 2 weeks, and last up to 3 months.

Skin Treatments (Microneedling, Chemical Peels, Aquagold):

Refining and treating the skin forms a key foundation to any facial transformation. Treatments like peels, microneedling, and other facial based treatments can help treat fine lines and wrinkles, and also large pores, reduce acne, treat scarring and hyperpigmentation, and rejuvenate the skin. Combining multiple treatments will lead to optimal results as not every treatment can fix every problem.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are a foundational element of facial treatments. These injectable gels immediately restore volume, lifting the skin, helping to rejuvenate and restore facial structure and youthfulness.

It All Starts With a Consultation:

Patients wanting to rejuvenate the skin and face, and wanting to treat fine lines and wrinkles should start with a consultation where your concerns and goals can be reviewed, as well as what treatments may help you achieve those goals. At Kitchener Waterloo Cosmetic Clinic, Dr. Rayhaan Dawood will customize your treatments and plan to your specific needs.

Static Vs Dynamic Lines

Dynamic Lines are lines created by the movement of muscle. As we age our muscles get stronger, and this contributes to wrinkling. Common areas where dynamic lines and wrinkles form are the forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. Botox is commonly used to treat these areas. Botox works by relaxing the activity of the muscle, stopping the source of the lines.

Static Lines are lines that are etched into the skin. They require other treatments like microneedling, peels, and medical grade skincare to help treat. Static Lines are more difficult to treat, and complete resolution is very difficult.

Best Candidates?

Every patient is unique. Some notice changes at a younger age, and some may not have the desired look they want regardless of age. We always recommend a consultation so we can tailor a custom and unique treatment plan that is right for you and your goals.

How are Treatments Performed?

The first step is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Rayhaan Dawood MD CCFP. Dr. Dawood. He has trained along with and under some of the industry’s top physicians and injectable experts from across the world.  At your consultation Dr. Dawood will assess your overall health and medical history, define your goals, and formulate a treatment plan.

At the time of treatment a topical numbing cream will be applied to minimize discomfort. Dermal Filler or Botox will then be injected using a very fine needle, or skin based peels and microneedling devices will be applied. Overall time in office is ~60 minutes, with actual treatment time taking <30 minutes.

Most Common Fine Line and Wrinkle Treatments

As our bodies age, we start to lose facial fat, collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. We begin form fine lines and wrinkles. Our skin collects the signs of aging like hyperpigmentation and scarring. Our tissue begins to sag, leading to a more skeletal appearance.

Forehead Wrinkles:

These dynamic and static lines can be treated primarily with Botox, Microneedling, and Dermal Filler via Aquagold Microchanneling/Microneedling Facial. These treatments can help to relax active muscle movement, and treat both dynamic and static lines. This leads to a smoother and more youthful appearance.

Frown Lines:

Caused by small, but strong eyebrow muscles, the “frown lines” can be frustrating to many. Over time patients may notice deep creases begin to form within the eyebrow region. Treatment is often done with Botox, and then micorneedling or peels to work out the smaller static lines.

Crow’s Feet:

Lines around the eyes are called the “crow’s feet” area, or lateral rhytids. Injecting Botox into this area can help settle the lines dramatically, and then static lines can be worked away with treatments like microneedling, peels, or aquagold.

Microneedling:

Microneedling is a non-surgical treatment that induces collagen and elastin stimulation through small and shallow needles. As we age our collagen and elastin are lost, and this contributes to the formation of facial aging, and fine line and wrinkle formation. Microneedling can help treat fine lines and wrinkles and is great when used in combination with other treatments like Botox and Dermal Fillers.

Chemical Peels:

While chemical peels are great for acne, they can also help to treat fine lines and wrinkles. Often peels are used in combination with treatments like microneedling.

Juvederm Volite, Aquagold Microchanneling and Anti-Aging Filler (Skinboosters):

Juvederm Volite is a special purpose dermal filler. While still a hyaluronic acid filler, this product is placed very superficially into the skin of the face to create a radiant, youthful glow. The goal is not to plump the skin, but to condition and refine it. This will help treat very fine smooth lines and rough texture to the surface skin. By boosting the production of collagen, the skin will become smoother and softer. And with more moisture comes more skin radiance. Often we will combine this with our Aquagold Microchanneling/Microneedling Facial treatment to deliver Botox and Filler via 24 karat gold needle tips directly into the skin, for the ultimate glow.

BOTOX® vs. Dermal Fillers

Botox and Dermal Fillers are commonly used together to address different aspects of aging and to realize patient goals. Dermal fillers are used for lost facial volume, and to enhance facial features and restore contour lost due to aging or weight loss.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a muscle relaxant injection that will smooth dynamic lines caused by muscle movement. Botox works by relaxing the muscles activity, allowing it to rest, and not cause deep wrinkles into the face and skin.

Both Botox and Fillers can be used in the same treatment/session depending on specific concerns. Dr. Dawood will be able to review your concerns and formulate an individualized treatment plan.
